Interview with Rachel M. Adams

Hey Rachel, thanks for doing this!

Of course! I’m so incredibly honored to be here!

Tell us a little about yourself!

I’m a homeschooled teenager living in the Rocky Mountains. I live to glorify God with my whole heart. I’ve published a few books now and I pray that continues. Other than writing I like to bake, read, run, and hang out with my friends and family.

Tell us about your writing journey and your current projects!

My current journey and projects… I have several personal projects, I kinda have a thing for event planning. But writing wise I’m working on two more new anthologies which hopefully will be released before 2025! Which will be a small Christmas book and then a poetry book. You can actually submit poetry for that anthology right now by going to Skillful Pen Press’ website!

Who inspired you most to become an author?

That’s a tough question… Crazy Writing Week really helped me in realizing I could. But a lot of authors like Laura Ingalls Wilder, Jerry B. Jenkins, Carolyn Keene, and countless others have really inspired me to be able to become an author myself.

Tell us a bit about your blog and its mission!

Alannah Faith from https://letsrunfree.com really helped me to want to start a blog. God’s Got The Power is mostly about the Christian Faith but I sometimes veer off into a few other categories. With my blog being up for a little over a year now it’s mission is to point and inspire young Christians.

How and why did you start Skillful Pen Press?

Erin Hylands actually is the one who really started it and had the idea. Adeline Charlotte and I are the co-founders. The three of us really started Skillful Pen Press’ journey last year with releasing two small books and then launched a bigger book in January of this year. We started Skillful Pen Press in hopes that it would become a company something to glorify Him and impact many readers.

Do you have any advice for other young writers? Mistakes that you’ve made that others can avoid?

Being a writer you have to start from the ground up, like most things in life. Writing is hard, no doubt about that, but sometimes it feels like it’s like the only thing that you want to do. But as far as mistakes go… I’ve made so many in my life and writing journey. I think that one of my biggest mistakes that I’ve made in the past (and sometimes still do) is that I never finish the story so I have several unfinished projects just laying around.

You’ve published 3 story collections, do you have any tips for anyone who’s interested in self publishing themselves?

So I’ve done two anthologies and then I have my own small poetry book. My advice would be something simple, don’t hesitate to ask for help. It’s a hard thing to do. You’re going to run into bumps along the way, I know that I sure have. Asking for help and more advice from others who’ve done what you’re trying to do is probably one of the most simplest pieces of advice I could give you.

What are some resources you recommend to young writers?

I recommend The Young Writers Workshop 100%. It’s helped me so much. I doubt that I’d even be where I am right now in my life if I didn’t have it. It’s such an amazing place.

Where can we find out more about you?

If you’re on YDubs you can find me. Except that I’m under a different name there, you’ll just have to ask around *winks*.

My main platforms are mostly on websites.

But you can find me on my blog: https://godsgotthepower.wordpress.com

In my author site: https://authorrachelmadams.wordpress.com/

On Skillful Pen Press website: https://skillfulpenpress.wixsite.com/psalm45-1
