Interview with Addie the Unofficial Librarian

Hey there Addie, thanks for doing this!

Of course, my friend! Thank you so much for letting me come!

Tell us a little about yourself!

Well first things first, I’m a child of God but I’m also a pirate & gnome obsessed, animal loving, music head bobbing, happy soul, insane fantasy writer.

Awesome!!

Tell us about your writing journey and your current projects!

I’ve, as my daddy says, always been doomed to be a writer. (Not doomed as in doomed, but I was bound to wind up one) I was constantly using my imagination for stories, games, and make believe. I’ve always had a more creative soul, always had some story to tell. I wrote on and off when I was younger but come 2022, I found The Young Writer’s Workshop and it changed my writing forever. I wouldn’t be where I was without it.

My current projects vary as I am outlining multiple, but one of my favorites is about learning that you are loved even from a broken past.

Wow, that is so amazing!

Tell us a bit about your blog and its mission!

My blog, The Unofficial Librarian, is about books and everything bookish! My mission is to provide content warnings on book reviews and also a safe place for readers of all ages to find bookish ramblings and thoughts.

That’s so great, everyone needs a safe, book-filled haven from time to time!

Who inspired you most to become an author?

I’d say it’s always been a part of my dreams to be an author simply because my parents raised me (and still are) on books. It’s something I’ve always loved. But authors who inspire me that it is possible are people like S. D. Smith and Bethany Atazadeh and all the authors on YWW!

That is so great that your parents were such big supporters!!

Do you have any advice for other young writers? Mistakes that you’ve made that others can avoid?

Don’t stress about the word count. It can get discouraging real quick and I should know. More times than not I find my novels have turned into novellas. Don’t worry because it can always be added too with more plots and in some cases more characters!

I’ve made many mistakes, some I’m probably not even aware of, but I don’t try to have alpha readers or beta readers too early. I have done this only to find I myself am not happy with the story so in turn I feel awful about handing it to alphas. Another thing is to stick to your stories. You’ll never finish something if you have a hundred projects going!

What are some resources you recommend to young writers?

Definitely the YouTube channels of Abbie Emmons, Bethany Atazadeh, Brittany Wang, and Mandie Lynn. The Young Writers Workshop and Reedsy’s name generator.

Where can we find out more about you?

You can follow more from me at my blog, theunofficiallibrarian.com

Thank you so much Addie!!

Until next time,

-Lori
